When I moved to Annapolis, MD, one of the first services I sought out was a dentist.  With my family, it is always difficult to juggle work, practices, and appointments, so finding a dentist in Annapolis that worked with my needs, as well as the needs of my family, was very important.

Sure, there are plenty of dentists in Annapolis, MD, just as you would suspect.  However, choosing the dentist that is right for you is not as easy as you might think.  There are probably an infinite number of reasons a person could use to choose his or her dentist, but the more you know, the better off you will be.  So, when I choose a dentist in the Annapolis area, I started with the basics.

First of all, I looked for Annapolis dentists who would provide dental care for my children.  My children are just learning the importance of meeting their oral health needs, so an Annapolis dentist would have to have the correct disposition to have the patience to deal with children as well as to keep them entertained while educating them.  Dentists who work with anxious patients are also important to me.  I won’t say that my husband is scared of going to the dentist, but having one who is ready to deal with a less that excited patient is always a plus.

Preventative care is also very important to me.  There is nothing I hate worse than that pit in your stomach feeling you get when a dentist tells you that you have a cavity.  The more preventative education you have means you make greater strides in your preventative dental efforts, and the better off you should be in the long run.  However, if you do find the need for procedures that help eliminate your dental problems, there is one ticket that can buy your way to a more pleasurable dental experience:  technology.

Technology can make the difference between average dental care and extraordinary dental care.  Not only are your dental files easily accessed and reviewed, but technology can help you from the beginning of your process with your x-rays to the end of your process – ensuring that you get the right amount of anesthesia and that you maintain your level of comfort throughout your entire procedure.

One final factor that was important to me is cosmetic dentistry.  When I looked for my new dentist in Annapolis, MD, I also looked for one that could meet any cosmetic needs that my family might have.  I cannot tell if I’ll ever need crowns or dentures, or if my husband will finally get those instant braces, but I do know I would like to be comfortable enough with my dentist to be able to discuss it.  When I looked for a dentist in Annapolis, I wanted an office that felt like home while I tried to adjust to my new home.
